MP3: Postal Service – “Such Great Heights”
MP3: Owl City – “Fireflies”

So – I was following the buzz about Sufjan today and ended up on Paste’s 50 Best Albums of the Decade. I’ve got to say that I thought this was a pretty excellent list. There were a few that I thought out of place (how can Avett Bro’s newest make it on the top 50 of the decade when it hasn’t been out for more than a few months? Typical case of early stage enfatuation that’ll wear off soon and the writer will regret not putting Grizzly Bear or Department of Eagles on there). But seriously, this was a quality, unpretentious list of the decade’s best. Special Larson Kudos to Paste for including Ryan Adams’ “Heartbreaker,” Beck’s “Sea Change,” National’s “Boxer,” and Pedro the Lion’s “Control.”

Speaking of lists, here on Larson’s List, it looks like it’s that time again. Amazon’s put out the first “Best of 2009″ list of the year. I guess w/Black Friday just around the corner, they had to get this one out the door ASAP.

In other news, our own Molly did an interview with Owl City. We here at Stereopathic pride ourselves in not being music snobs and are happy to have writers that like different flavors of music. Well, our web guru, Dave, had to talk some smack on Facebook and before you know it, the whole world’s talking about how Owl City’s #1 song, “Fireflies,” is a bad ripoff of Postal Service. Personally, I can’t say I really like either, but the controversy’s fun. Check out what Pitchfork and Stereogum had to say. Stick to your guns Molly!

Larson is a magical conduit of music news: He takes stuff from blogs he reads and puts them on this blog. Don’t ask him how he does it, it’s a closely guarded trade secret.

Grizzly Bear, barely. Dept. of Eagles, not at all.

    Thumbs up to Sea Change.

    Them’s fighting words, Remy.

“In Ear Park” is quite possibly the greatest album of all time. Grizzly Bear is also incredible. Owl City is terrible. This is my opinion on this post.

Actually, the Owl City song really ups the WTF quotient, which makes it almost original when compared to a Postal Service track. (Not that PS doesn’t have its moments. I mean, freckled eyes and puzzle pieces?)

Don’t get me wrong, I likes ‘em both, I likes ‘em both, it’s just that if we’re talking best of the decade…

Tho, I haven’t checked the full fiddy, so I’m sure there are others I would want to replace with Griz and Dept.

Capitulate son! You know that Dept is amazing! It qualifies for me because I can’t go more than a week…let’s say Two Weeks (*wink*) without listening to In Ear Park.
