Quest For Fire’s “Quest For Fire”

MP3: Quest For Fire - Bison Eyes
MP3: Quest For Fire - Strange Waves
This album came out in June but who cares, right? As a rule, I hate ‘jam bands.’ When I saw the genre was ‘rock’ and most of the songs were over 5 minutes long, I was scared, I’m not going to lie. But when I saw titles like ‘Bison Eyes’ and ‘Hawk that Hunts the Walking,’ I knew it would be foolishness not to at least give it a whirl. And I was rewarded. This band’s music is full of more raw energy and, at the same time, sultriness than any other jam-type band I have heard before. Sure, it’s mystical-sounding–but it’s mystical-sounding in the ‘You would enjoy this if you were/were not stoned’ way. It has a masculine, bad-ass quality to it, somewhat reminiscent of BRMC’s bridled sexiness and I would definitely be interested to see what Quest for Fire sound like live if they are playing a show in New York anytime soon. The band name is from “A Science Fantasy Adventure” film made in 1982. This album is Autumn-approved by Asher. Go West. Get the wind in your face, get the sand in your eyes, and go on your own Quest For Fire. (WARNING: The exposed breasts of a tribal alien-looking woman appear on the cover of this record. Look and listen at your own discretion.)
