James Wood Finger Drums

james-woodHe’s not the best finger drummer I’ve ever seen. But he’s the best finger drummer I’ve ever seen who’s written for The New Republic and The New Yorker and taught at Harvard and written his own novel and three books of literary criticism and smacked down David Foster Wallace (R.I.P.) and Dave Eggers in one motion and is married to “a novelist of unnerving talent”, Claire Messud.

Wikipedia says that he went to Eton College on a scholarship for music, so this doesn’t come entirely out of the blue. Enjoy James Wood finger drumming and then check out his talk at the Harvard bookstore about character in fiction. He’s better at the latter, but charming at both. Video after the jump.
